The morning light cut through the bathroom window like a blade.
I woke to the sound of my own breathing—ragged, nasal, desperate. The gag was back in my mouth. I didn't remember him putting it there. The ball pressed against my tongue, the straps digging into the corners of my lips, and my jaw ached with a dull, spreading throb that radiated up into my temples.
